Happy Hour colors Looking to remodel your house or lease a car but don’t have the cash? According to Dr. Sonny Saggar, your answer to putting more cash in your wallet could be as simple as going on an alcoholic fast for a month. And on top of the financial benefits, Saggar also says that it will help you to lose weight.

According to Saggar, there are many benefits of cutting back on alcohol consumption. Typically, the only people who abstain from drinking altogether are those who have a problem. However, research suggests that everyone could use an extended break from booze.

You might be tempted to interrupt with a cited research fact from a study that lauds the benefits of regular alcohol consumption. However, a recent study reviewed the past 87 papers that concluded that reasonable and moderate drinking was okay and found these papers to be flawed. Canadian researchers said that the studies were poorly designed, largely biased and needed further investigation.

That being said, abstaining from alcohol can offers a myriad of benefits, including weight loss, clearer skin, more energy, and overall improved health.

A recent trial performed by New Scientist showed that volunteers lost an average of 2% of their body weight over the course of a month after abstaining from alcohol. Meanwhile, another study published in the journal Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental found that drinks before bed increase alpha wave patterns in the brain. This means those who abstain from drinking tend to sleep more soundly.

And as Dr. Saggar emphasized, alcoholic fasts are one of the easiest ways to put more cash in your wallet. According to USA Today Americans spend 1% of their income on alcohol. It might seem small, but that number can add up; for that amount, some people could even save up for a house with an FHA 203K loans, which only requires a 3.5% down payment.
